Bracket Madness

So have you filled out your NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament bracket yet?   The term “bracket” seems to be really popular this time of the year.   I have not watched a minute of college basketball this season and I have entered the Yahoo! Tourney Pick’em contest.  I figured that I have a chance as much as anybody.  Sometimes people that are too close to the sport may not be as objective.

My pick:  UCLA over Duke.

Other “bracket” or “March Madness” contests have popped up to take advantage of the tournament.

Disney Parks have “March Magic” where you can vote and cheer for  your favorite Walt Disney World Attractions.  This is the fourth year for a fictional tournament which puts 18 teams inspired by attractions in all four parks for Disney fans.  The Hollywood Tower Hotel Bellhops are the defending tournament champions.  The Bellhops open up against the Skippers (Jungle Cruise) on March 20.  The “play-in” votes will be the Sea Serpents (Electrical Water Pageant) and Alphas (SeaBase) on March 14th.  The Movers (Tomorrowland) will go against the Cadets (Astro Orbiter) on March 15th.  My personal favorite is the Ghouls (Haunted Mansion).   Check out the rest of the bracket below:

The Hallmark Channel is having “Meow Madness” on April 3rd but also giving fans an opportunity to fill out their Christmas movie bracket.  Yeah, it’s a little confusing.  Kittens? Christmas Movies? Basketball?

Fans will pick their favorite Hallmark Christmas movie in each round.  Points will accumulate on the most popular movies with the largest number of votes.  Contestants with the most points are then eligible to win $1,000, $2,500 and $10,000.  The winning movie title will be reveal during Meow Madness.  My pick in this contest is “A Christmas Melody”.

Even our local Nashville Scene magazine has bracket fever with their  “Sandwich Madness” featuring a competition between the best sandwiches in Nashville.  Readers will vote for their favorites in categories such as “Pig & Cow”, “Barbecue”, “Fish & Fowl” and “Vegetarian”.   Could this be the year that the Lemongrass Tofu Banh Mi upsets the Pulled Pork Sandwich?  Stay tuned.

I love to get paid for writing but I continue to write anyway. It is something I feel driven to do. I may not always get the grammar correct but I hope I can entertain whoever reads it.
